Do I need a tight seal like with a regular plunger?

No. As long as the cone is seated down inside the drain opening, every push sends water down the line - and that is what moves the clog.

The Plunger is stuck. How do I get it out?

Do not pull straight up. Rock it side to side to break the seal first, then lift. To avoid this, never push it past the ring on the head.
